Time Freedom – The Dream

Do you often hear yourself or your friends saying that “I am busy..”, “I am very busy..”, “Sorry, I am unable to make it..”? You get the drift..

Where did all our time go?

Hours
Each of us have 24 hours a day, 168 hours a week, 672 hours a month (4weeks), 8736 hours a year.

Let's assume we have a well-rested 8 hours each night to stay healthy, well-rested and ready for the new days each time, we have 16 hours a day, 112 hours a week, 448 hours a month, 5824 hours a year.

Let's assume that we hold a normal 9-6 job, excluding OT which is rather prevalent in the Singapore labour market, and takes an average of a 45-minute journey per commute, we have 5.5 hours a workday, 27.5 hours a work week, 110 hours a work month, 1430 hours a work year left.

All of us have 16 hours a day, 32 hours a week, 128 hours a month, 1664 hours a year over weekends on the assumption of a 5-day work week and no need to OT over the weekends.

Combined, we have 3094 hours a year to ourselves at the upper limit.

Days
Each of us have 365 days a year.

Assuming a healthy life span of 70 years and the awakening at the age of 25, we have approximately 16,425 healthy days left.

At 35 years old, we have approximately 12,775 healthy days left.
At 45 years old, we have approximately 9,125 healthy days left.
At 55 years old, we have approximately 5,475 healthy days left.
At 65 years old, we have approximately 1,875 healthy days left.

If we retire at 65 years old, we have 4,160 healthy full days (weekends) to ourselves during our career at age 25; 3,120 healthy full days at age 35; 2.080 healthy days at age 45; 1,040 healthy days at age 55.

Seasons
Another perspective to look at this but not applicable to the Singapore weather because all year round we seem to only have one season right? However, you can think of it from a holidaying point of view 😊

We have four seasons a year to explore overseas - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Let's take Spring as an example. Same as above, assuming a healthy life span of 70 years and the awakening at the age of 25, we have approximately 45 Springs left.

At 35 years old, we have approximately 35 Springs left.
At 45 years old, we have approximately 25 Springs left.
At 55 years old, we have approximately 15 Springs left.
At 65 years old, we have approximately 5 Springs left.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if the term "Spring Chicken" has any association here?

Thoughts to ponder
Where are you in the above timeline?

Remember that the above illustration did not take into account of any potential boomerangs in our lives.

Time is actually the real wealth currency.

Once you have time freedom, it allows you the OPTION to create and build the lifestyle that you want or to pursue your priorities in life.

What would having time freedom mean to you?

  1. Hi,

I totally agree with you on the importance of time. Money is considered as an asset to allow one to use the time for the things of his or her interest.

    1. Hi WTK,

I am humbled to have you visit my little wonderland in the oasis of this wired world :)

Indeed, money is just a tool to allow us to spend Time, the currency, however we so wish to in pursuit of our interests.

Case studies of individuals, their youth pass them by in the blink of an eye. Where did all their Time go to, they wonder but in their hearts they know..

Did their sacrifices come to naught? Only Time will tell.

How many of us can accumulate the agaration of "enough" to unlock the achievement of Time freedom?

      Have you identified your "enough"?

Look forward to walk alongside with you here in our blogsphere
